Research Assistant Professor
Xiaocong received his MA (specializing in phonetics and phonology) and PhD (specializing in psycholinguistics) at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. His research interest includes phonetics, phonology, psycholinguistics, neurolinguistics and bilingualism. He currently investigates the neural bases of the planning of lexical tones in Chinese word production using different neurobiological techniques such as EEG and fNIRS, and the perceptual-production link underlying speech learning.

Adeel is a recent graduate of HKU, with a degree in "Learning Sciences and Applied Neuroscience." His research focus centers on EEG, HRV, stress, and reinforcement learning.

Jiaqiang does research in cognitive psychology. He focuses on language and music cognition in different populations, such as individuals with amusia and senior citizens. A variety of techniques are exploited, including psychophysics and electroencephalography. Recently, Jiaqiang explores statistical learning and publishes related scientific papers in JSLHR and JASA.

Cherry graduated from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University with an BA degree in Chinese and Bilingual Studies. She is currently studying Master of Speech Therapy in PolyU. Her research interests include pediatric speech-language disorders and sleep-language association.

Jiwei graduated from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University with an MA degree in Chinese Language and Literature. With a strong passion for psycholinguistics, lexical tone, and music, Jiwei has engaged in related research projects. One project examined the influence of self-voice pitch on the perception of Cantonese lexical tones. Another project investigates the possibility of remedying congenital amusia through behavioral intervention.

Winsy graduated from the University of Sydney with a bachelor's in speech pathology. She is a registered speech therapist in both Hong Kong and Australia. She enjoys working with SEN children and supporting their learning. She has a strong interest in psycholinguistics, specifically understanding how children with learning difficulties learn and process language in their brains.

Cassie graduated from University College London (UCL) with a MSc Degree in Language Sciences. She is interested in language prediction and multimodal language processing. Recently, she is helping with a project on children’s long-term memory, sleep, and brain development.

Dennis graduated from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. With the research interest in language, memory, and cognitive, Dennis has engaged in related research projects. One project examines the relationship between music and language, and another project explores the relationship between long-term memory, brain, and language development. Also, he assists a project about language and cognitive abilities in neurodiversity people.

Jueyao received her BA in Chinese and Bilingual Studies focusing on Linguistic and Speech Sciences from Hong Kong Polytechnic University and MSocSc in Psychology from City University of Hong Kong. Her research interest includes memory, learning and reading difficulties, ERP studies on children with language disorders, and related psychometric analysis.

Lu graduated from Fudan University with a BA Degree in Russian and the University of Edinburgh with an MSc degree in Phonetics. She is interested in phonetics and neurolinguistics. Currently, she is working on the associations between sleep and language development in Cantonese-speaking children.

Jiayi graduated from Lancaster University with a BA Hons Degree in Linguistics and a minor in English Language. She received her MSc degree in Phonetics from the University of Edinburgh. Her research interests include experimental phonetics, psycholinguistics, and neurolinguistics. Currently, Jiayi is exploring the relationship between language, memory and brain development of Cantonese-speaking children. Additionally, she is actively involved in an ongoing project that focuses on sleep-mediated memory consolidation in the process of second language tone learning.

Ruofan holds a BA in Linguistics (CityU) and an MSc in Psychology (University of Edinburgh). Her current research interest is in language and cognitive abilities in neurotypical people and neurodevelopmental conditions such as Autism (Ruofan has a certification of ADOS-2 administration).

Yuhong received her Bachelor’s degree in French language and literature from Xiamen University and her Master’s degree in advanced studies in Linguistics from KU Leuven. Her current research interests lie in the relation between music and language, and the relation between congenital amusia and developmental dyslexia.

Changsheng holds a B.S. in Psychology from Beijing Normal University and he gained his M.S. in Neuroscience at City University of Hong Kong. His research interest lies in pitch perception, lexical tone, amusia, music, and neuroscience. He is now working on associations between language development and psychological index, such as motivation and social communication.

Jiabing graduated from Zhengzhou University with a B.A. Degree in Applied Psychology, and from Renmin University of China with an M.A. degree in Psycholinguistics. Her research interests lie in phonetics, phonology, and neurolinguistics. Currently, she is focusing on the cognitive mechanisms of phonological encoding during speech production in Cantonese-speaking children.
